The terrible scene occurred around 10:30 p.m. last Wednesday at the Aviación Española metro station in Madrid’s Latina district.
The couple had just got off the subway and separated as they were about to go out into the street. She got into the elevator with the stroller and the attacker chose to go up the stairs with the seven-month-old baby in his arms.
Initial investigations indicate that the young man, aged 19 and of Spanish nationality, took advantage of the moment he was alone with the little girl to hit her several times on different parts of her body.
When they got out, the mother asked her partner about the bruises her daughter had suffered, which he claimed she had fallen on.
However, when she was taken into care by the emergency services, the paramedics from Samur-Civil Protection confirmed that the multiple bruises were consistent with possible blows. The baby was transferred to the San Carlos Clinical Hospital, where she was admitted.
The suspect left the scene but was eventually located by the Madrid Municipal Police. The case has been handed over to the National Police, who are investigating the young man for the crime of injury.
