Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a conversation with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan that his country is capable of defeating terrorists with the help of its allies and friends.
Oku.Az TASS reports that the Syrian leader’s office has published information in this regard.
“During the telephone conversation, President Assad stressed that Syria defends its territorial integrity from terrorists and their sponsors, and is capable of destroying them with the help of its allies and friends,” the office said.
It should be noted that accusations have spread on social media that a coup has taken place in the capital, Damascus, and that Assad has fled to Moscow. These claims were denied in a statement issued by the head of state’s office.
According to other claims, Russia has promised to send a military contingent to assist the Syrian government in the coming hours.
