It is very unfortunate that the European Union is described as a “garden” and the rest of the world as a “jungle”. This claim is nothing more than the “us and the barbarians” narrative of the colonial era.
Oku.Az It is reported that Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, shared it on his account on the social network “X” in response to the statements of the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell.
“Small island developing states, as well as the overseas regions of EU member states, suffer greatly from climate change. However, overseas regions deprived of self-governance cannot express their concerns and are ignored. In the COP29, Azerbaijan provides an inclusive platform for all voices to be heard “Membership in the EU does not confer the privilege of maintaining a neocolonial government and rejecting the concept of decolonization, and it should be noted that some EU member countries have a deplorable colonial government and a shameful slave trade,” the publication said.
According to him, Azerbaijan is highly appreciated by the international community as the organizer of COP29. However, it is completely unacceptable for the EEAS to send instructions to EU Member States not to participate in COP29.
“Likewise, some EU countries tried to dissuade other countries from participating in COP29 using diplomatic channels. By doing this, they tried to disrupt the COP process. But all these attempts failed. More than 80 heads of state and of government participated in COP29. More than 70,000 participants have registered. I just want to remind you that the COP process belongs to the UN and the world,” wrote H. Hajiyev.
“Despite all these ineffective attacks, Azerbaijan, as organizer and president of COP29, will continue to do everything possible to ensure the inclusion of the COP and work constructively with the parties to achieve the expected results in the global climate agenda.” the publication emphasized.
@JosepBorrellF 1. Your illustration of the European Union as a “garden” and the rest of the world as a “jungle” is the most regrettable. This statement is reminiscent of nothing more than the colonial-era narrative of “us and the barbarians.”
