The head of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Arkady Dvorkovich, who has Russian citizenship and was previously an aide to the Russian president, decided not to chair the organization’s meeting on the issue of admitting Russians to chess tournaments.
“Since the speech concerns Russia, I will not chair a meeting on this topic.” —TASS quotes Dvorkovich.
Instead of Dvorkovich, the FIDE meeting will be chaired by the organization’s vice president, an Indian. Viswanathan Anand.
EADaily Remember that FIDE previously recommended allowing children from Russia and Belarus to participate in team tournaments.
