The north of the enclave continues to be the point hardest hit by Israeli troops since early last October, when they resumed their offensive under the assumption that Hamas was trying to regroup in the area.
Since then, at least 1,800 people have died in the northern Gaza Strip, which includes Jabalia and its refugee camp, Beit Lahia and Bei Hanoun, according to the latest official figure released last Tuesday by the Palestinian authorities.
This Saturday, the chief of staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, assured that his troops killed around 1,000 Palestinian militiamen during their offensive in the area. “This is a significant achievement and a major blow to Hamas,” Halevi said.
