In northeastern Nigeria, some 150 militants from the Boko Haram group (a terrorist organisation banned in Russia) attacked the village of Mafa in Yobe state, killing around 80 people,” Yobe police spokesman Abdulkareem Dungus told AFP.
“They killed a lot of people and burned many shops and houses. We are yet to establish the actual number of people who died in the attack.” – Dungus said, clarifying that at least 81 people died.
The aim of the attack, according to a police spokesman, was to avenge the killing of two Boko Haram militants by the Mafa militia.
Boko Haram has been active in Nigeria since 2002. Members of the group advocate the introduction of Sharia law and fight against Western influence. In recent years the movement has become more radical. Several thousand people have been killed by the group’s terrorists.
