At least ten people died, as confirmed by the Civil Guard, in the fire at the Jardines de Villafranca retirement home, in the town of Villafranca de Ebro (Zaragoza). There is another person in critical condition. The fire, the causes of which are currently unknown, was completely extinguished.
According to the Aragon government, there were 82 people in the residence at the time of the fire. Firefighters from Zaragoza City Hall, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection Volunteers, psychologists, social workers and health resources from 061 work on site, as well as medical staff from the Alfajarín and Fuentes health centers from Ebro. alerted the Royo Villanova, Miguel Servet and Clínico Universitario hospitals.
The Minister of Finance and Interior of the Regional Executive, Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, and the director of the Aragonese Institute of Social Services, Ángel Val, are settling in the area.
