At least two peacekeepers injured in new Israeli attack on UN in Lebanon

A new attack on Friday left two people injured at the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force for Lebanon (UNIFIL), known as the Blue Helmets, in Naqoura, in southwest Lebanon. This is the second attack in 24 hours and the fourth attributed to Israel against UN peacekeeping troops. According to sources from the Sexta Ministry of Defense, there have been no attacks in the area where most of the Spanish contingent is located and all the soldiers are doing well.

According to the Lebanese national news agency NNA, the attack took place while a “Merkava enemy tank (supposedly Israeli) “attacked one of the UNIFIL towers (…) injuring two soldiers of the Sri Lankan battalion”.

Lebanon’s state news agency, NNA, reported that Israeli forces launched an artillery shell hits the main entrance to the basecausing damage, while a tank attacked an observation tower, injuring two soldiers from the Sri Lankan contingent.

UNIFIL and Sri Lankan authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
