Isidra Torres, marathon athlete, died from injuries caused by an attack by three pit bull dogs. After the death of the 52-year-old athlete, the Oaxaca prosecutor’s office announced that it had reclassified the offense as negligent homicide this weekend. According to the investigation, the attack of the dogs, whose owner is a neighbor of the athlete Torres, occurred last Sunday while Isidra Torres was walking in the street.
The dogs’ attack on the Mexican woman caused various injuries to different parts of her body, so she had to be transferred and admitted to the Dr. Aurelio Valdivieso Hospital in the capital of Oaxaca to receive medical treatment. Isidra’s daughter, Isis Guadalupe Zárate Torres, reported this Monday that the owner of the dogs, after the attack, hidden on land that belonged to him and did not help the athlete after what happened, according to local media Front line.
“He let my mother lie and she didn’t even help me to help her,” Zárate said. “My mother suffered in the hospital for 28 days. There were no arrests even though we know that he “There’s a manager here and the man ignored him… he didn’t even come to see how my mother is doing,” the girl says indignantly.
Outrage in the family of Isidra Torres
The athlete, who ran marathons for over 10 years, received several dog bites on his body which caused serious injuries, leading to the amputation of both his arms. Isidra’s daughter added that given the authorities’ inaction, The dogs’ owner continued to walk them on the street in the days following the attack on his mother.
The prosecution said it had requested an arrest warrant against the owner of the dogs that attacked the athlete. However, he noted that “the judge hearing the case refused to issue the said court order, so the prosecutor’s office requested a hearing date so that the case does not go unpunished.
This action by the judge has upset the family and friends of the athlete, very popular with the sports community in the region, since until now the authorities have not arrested the person responsible for the dogs. It is for this reason that a large group of people demonstrated on Monday in the main square of Oaxaca with banners such as “I raise my voice for Isi”, “I want to run without fear” and “We demand that the law be applied to those responsible.”
Given the great shock and pain caused by the runner’s death, several sports groups, family members and even sports journalists remember her with affection. “You loved to runhow you love certain things, in secret at dawn, with your soul. We regret the sensitive death of our sister Isidra Torres Hernández, a kilometer long,” the Imparables Runners group wrote on Facebook.
For his part, sports journalist Julio León remembers the athlete as an enthusiastic and happy woman. “Isidra has always been characterized in the sporting world by this enormous enthusiasm and joy; always cordial and expressing his enthusiasm for each of the participations he faced in the different sports.
