The Ugandan athlete’s ex-partner Rebecca Cheptegeiaccused of killing her by dousing her in petrol and setting her on fire, died in hospital from burns sustained in the attack, Kenyan newspaper The Star reported on Tuesday.
Cheptegei, 33, who competed in the marathon at the Paris Olympics, is suffering burns over 75% of his body in the attack on his ex-partner on September 1 and died four days later at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya.
His alleged killer died Monday night in the intensive care unit of the same hospital, The Star reported.
East Third elite athlete murdered in Kenya since October 2021. His death has once again put the spotlight on domestic violence in the East African country.
