First reaction from Atlético de Madrid after the events that occurred this Sunday in the stands of the Metropolitan Stadium which caused the temporary suspension of the match between them and Real Madrid. The throwing of objects from the stands where the ultras are located at the Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, led the referee to suspend the match for a few minutes. Today, the colchonero club announced the expulsion from its stands of the supporter it had identified for these events.
The red and white club announced in a press release the “final” expulsion of the first supporter involved and identified. “Our Security Department continues to work with the police to identify the rest of the people involved in the throwing of objects, who will be definitively expelled as soon as they are located,” adds the note, which was reproduced by different media.
The problems in the Madrid derby arose some time before the start of the match. Throughout Sunday, La Liga announced that it would take action against the initiative of some supporters to come with their faces covered so as not to be identified due to insults against Real Madrid players. Precisely, the club announced in the aforementioned press release that it would “imminently” modify its protocols to prevent access to the stadium with the face covered.
The events that occurred this Sunday provoked reactions even within the Government. The Minister of Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López, hopes that the “maximum sanction” will be applied after several ultra supporters of Atlético de Madrid threw objects on the pitch and forced the end of the derby against Real Madrid.
López described the events that occurred on Sunday evening at the Metropolitan Stadium as “unspeakable and intolerable” and hopes that they will be punished, after the meeting held this Monday by the Superior Sports Council. “I hope and wish that the maximum sanction is applied, whether it is Atlético or whichever team it is,” he says.
Depending on the decision taken by the sports authorities, Atlético de Madrid could face the closure of its stadium due to the actions carried out from the area where Frente Atlético is located, the most ultra corner of the supporters of the Atlético.
