Atlético Espeleño youth coach attacks referee during match

Another embarrassing episode occurred on a football field and this time in the province of Córdoba. During a match between Atlético Espeleño and Figueroa of the Andalusian fourth youth division, local coach tried to attack the referee in the middle of the match, forcing the referee to suspend the match prematurely.

As the images show, the referee, Emilio González, suffered an attempted attack from the local coach, Jorge Pinilla. The referee showed him two yellow cards and the subsequent red card for his continued protests. However, this sparked the anger of Atlético coach Espeleño who he threw a ball towards the referee although he managed to avoid it.

Then he sneaked onto the field and tried to hit him with his head, but the referee also had quick reflexes to avoid it. Afterwards, the local coach left, booed by the fans who recorded everything that had happened. A meeting between young people aged 16 to 18s, sullied by the image of the local coach.

Atlético Espeleño spoke out on social media about what happened. The rojillo club said: “We would like to apologize for what happened during the youth match held on Saturday. Once we spoke with our coach, we know that he takes responsibility for the nervous moment that he suffered and this led him to confront the referee. His attitude of repentance is total, like the recognition of his error.

Furthermore, “as an institution we regret what happened, we are a very humble club, everything costs us, and since our creation we have tried to do humility, effort and respect our trademark. This isolated event cannot and must not tarnish the name or history of our club and of course appropriate measures will be taken to ensure that “This won’t happen again.”
