Attack on Iran: AP publishes new details based on satellite images

An Israeli strike on Iran appears to have damaged the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base in Shahroud, satellite images show.

This is reported by the Associated Press agency.

This facility is considered an important link in the production of ballistic missiles and the implementation of the Iranian space program.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning, has raised questions for several reasons. First, the attack was carried out on a base whose existence Tehran had not publicly mentioned until now. Furthermore, despite the strategic importance of the site and its connection to the Guard, which plays a key role in the Iranian government, there has yet to be an official statement from Iranian authorities about possible damage. According to the official version, the attacks affected the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran, while Shahrud is located in the rural province of Semnan.

The attack could also severely undermine Iran’s ability to produce solid-fuel missiles, which are considered critical for defense and serve as a deterrent against Israel.

With limited access to Western weapons enjoyed by Israel and Iran’s neighbors in the Gulf, Tehran has been increasing its ballistic missile arsenal as part of its defense strategy.

According to the agency, analysis of satellite images previously confirmed Israeli strikes against other military sites near Tehran that Iran uses for missile development.
