Attack on Iranian police convoy in Iran, dead – details

In Iran, in the province of Sistan and Balochistan, an attack on a police convoy occurred on Saturday, in which 10 officers died. The incident occurred in the Gohar Kukh region, about 1,200 kilometers southeast of Tehran. Local media initially attributed the attack to “unknown persons,” but Iranian state media soon confirmed the officers’ deaths.

Israel Info writes about this.

The organization HalVash, which works to protect the rights of the Baloch people in Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, published photographs and videos from the site. The images show two damaged police cars with a characteristic green stripe and the bodies of dead officers. Judging by the bullet marks on the vehicles, only firearms were used in the attack, no explosives were used.

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni ordered a thorough investigation and called the dead officers “martyrs.” No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack and no possible suspects have been identified.

Sistan and Balochistan province, home to a predominantly Sunni Baloch population, is known for years of low-intensity conflict between Baloch nationalists and Iranian authorities. Attacks on security forces in the region are often organized by Sunni militants such as Jaish al-Adl. Their actions are usually guerrilla in nature, allowing organizers to hide after attacks.
