On the dates of the COP29 conference, a briefing on the presentation of the COP29 transport plan was held in Baku with the participation of the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, the General Department of State Traffic Police and the Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan (AYNA) in order to inform citizens about the traffic management plan and the comprehensive measures that will be implemented in this direction.
Oku.Az informs that at the briefing held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, venue of the event, representatives of the aforementioned institutions gave detailed information on the effective organization of the transport service to manage the large flow of visitors during the conference, and the measures taken to ensure good circulation of participants and local residents.
Orkhan Mahmudlu, director of the transport department of the COP29 Operating Company of Azerbaijan, who made a presentation at the briefing, noted that the specific approach required by the organizational preparations for COP29, which is the largest scale event organized so far in our country, was also applied to the measures applied in the field of transportation. Thus, it was reported that the corresponding plan and concept in this direction was prepared between February and September of this year. O. Mahmudlu stated that the concept includes elements such as safe and efficient transportation of guests from the airport to the conference venue and vice versa, ensuring free movement within the city, improving transportation infrastructure in the capital and provided detailed information about transportation. centers that will operate in Baku. The speech also provided extensive information on the operation of COP29 special vehicles, special route conference buses, hundreds of special taxis and express buses, as well as traffic rules on COP29 special lanes.
Subsequently, the president of the board of directors of AYNA, Anar Rzayev, called on the city’s inhabitants to use public transport, taking into account the number of guests who will visit the capital in order to participate in COP29. He also advised citizens traveling towards the airport to use the Zigh Highway as an alternative. A. Rzayev noted that during the days of COP29 public express buses will run from the airport to the metro stations “May 28” and “Ahmadli”, and during the days of the conference certain changes will occur on bus routes in Baku added that citizens will be informed about this in the coming days.
In his speech, Namidan Piriyev, head of the Center for Intelligent Transport Management of the Ministry of Interior (MIA), gave information about the entries and exits from different directions of the city during the days of COP29. He pointed out that in order to guarantee the accompaniment and safe movement of the high-level guests who will visit our country for this event of global importance, depending on the progress of the event, restrictions will be applied intermittently in some main streets and avenues of the capital, but it is not necessary to close the roads:
“Given the magnitude of the event, we only recommend that our citizens use private vehicles in moderation.”
A question and answer session was held at the end of the event to answer questions from media representatives.
It should be remembered that during the current month a series of large-scale monitoring was carried out to test the traffic management schemes on the dates of COP29. During traffic monitoring, traffic was successfully tested in various scenarios and directions with the participation of COP29 buses and cars, firefighters and ambulances, as well as hundreds of COP29 volunteers.
