The Austrian Ministry of Health declared the entire territory of the country a high-risk zone this Thursday after detecting case of bird flu in wild animals and on four farms with 200,000 animals.
“The number of cases in wild birds is increasing. That is why, from midnight, all of Austria declares a high risk area“, indicated the Minister of Health, Johannes Rauch, on the social network
Among the precautionary measures, Rauch indicated that prohibited from feeding animals outdoor; that contact between farm animals and wild animals should be avoided; and that anyone who finds dead birds should report it to the authorities.
In 25 districts of six of the country’s nine Länder, where a very high risk has been decreed, it has been imposed on farms with more than 50 animals obligation to keep animals guarded.
THE bird flu outbreakswhich are common in spring and fall, occur when the virus is transmitted to domestic birds from infected wild birds and can be fatal in poultry.
Last September, cases of avian flu were detected on farms Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, France and Hungarya country where 25,000 ducks were slaughtered last October.
In October, five outbreaks were detected Galicia (Spain) in eight specimens of yellow-legged gulls.
Faced with the risk of new epidemics, last September, the European Commission extended until September 30, 2025 preventive measures against bird flu.
