The mayor of Avallon (Yonne), Jamilah Habsaoui, charged in April after the discovery of 70 kilos of cannabis in her home, announced on Friday that she will resume her duties as elected, once again proclaiming her innocence. “Although the investigation is not yet closed, I can finally resume my professional activity and all my functions as an elected official”declares M.me Habsaoui, in a video posted on his Facebook page.
This is the diverse leftist mayor’s first public speech since her release under judicial supervision on May 15, after just over a month in pretrial detention. According to the newspaper Republican YonneHer return to the Avallon town hall was possible because the elected woman benefited at the end of September from a relaxation of her judicial control that authorized her to appear in Yonne.
A preliminary investigation initiated in October 2023 for drug trafficking implicated two brothers of Jamilah Habsaoui for being able to engage in the purchase and resale of narcotics in their sister’s house.
