This weekend, the equipment of the 350 referees of the Majorcan basic categories was presented for the first time on the field of the UD Pla de Na Tesa club, which includes messages such as “Don’t criticize!”, “Don’t insult!” or “Amb l’esport net, guanyam always!”. A values campaign that arises from a collaboration agreement between the Consell de Mallorca and the Football Federation of the Balearic Islands (FFIB) for the 2024-25 season, with the aim of promoting verbal non-violence on the pitches.
The second vice-president and advisor for the Environment, Rural Environment and Sports, Pierre Bestard; the president of the FFIB, Jordi Horrach; and the club president, Guillermo Quetglaswitnessed the symbolic pre-match act performed by the referee and a team of young people on the day Referee jerseys are released. They also gave bracelets with messages of values to the young participants and their families, where “Respect! is the main attraction.
Councilor Bestard underlined that “this campaign, a pioneer in terms of football and refereeing equipment, wants to help obtain a clean and respectful grandstand environment“, not only with the work of the referees, but also with the children, so that they do not have to hear shouts and insults during football days.” And he added that “the task of sports education on the tracks, fields and stands is everyone’s business: institutions, families, coaches and match spectators.”
