Azerbaijani Foreign Minister RESPONDED to the biased and unfair statement of the European Union

The biased and unfair statements of the European Union are seen as interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs.

Oku.Az It is reported that Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Aykhan Hajizade said this in response to the media’s question regarding the European Union’s September 11 speech on the public statement of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) of the Council of Europe.

“As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have provided a detailed statement reflecting our position on the IQAC public statement of 4 July 2024. It is unacceptable for the European Union to once again make biased statements referring to this public statement, and we firmly reject this smear campaign.

Instead of making such groundless statements against our country, we recommend the other side to pay attention to human rights violations in EU member states.

The EU has yet to investigate the killing of protesters in the “yellow jackets” action in France, the torture of local population in overseas territories as a result of France’s neocolonial policy, the spread of bribery and corruption in EU structures, Islamophobia and attacks on Muslims, and the EU side has not responded adequately to these problems.

We also note with regret that the EU’s indifference to the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of people in Armenia, which is under EU patronage, to cases of people arrested as a result of political persecution losing their lives in prisons, as well as to the persecution of politicians and their relatives, is a clear example of double standards.

In this context, these biased and unfair statements by the EU are considered interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs. In particular, this smear campaign against Azerbaijan on the eve of COP29 is a clear example of prejudice against our country.

“In Azerbaijan, all human rights are protected, in addition to the protection of persons deprived of liberty, significant progress is being made in the area of bringing relevant practice into line with generally accepted international standards, and the claims of the European Union in this regard are completely unfounded,” said A. Hajizadeh.

It should be noted that during the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on September 11, the European Union (EU) made a critical speech regarding Azerbaijan, referring to the public statement of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (ICC) dated July 3.
