Azerbaijan’s election results will be announced in 20 days, but Erdogan has already congratulated Aliyev

The results of the elections to the parliament of Azerbaijan will be summed up by the Central Election Commission of the republic no later than 20 days after the voting day, which took place on September 1. This is stated in the schedule of the elections to the Milli Majlis.

The commission has until 22 September to draw up a protocol on the election results. Then, within 24 hours of drawing up the protocol, the CEC submits the documents to the Constitutional Court for approval of the election results. The Constitutional Court has 10 days to verify the documents, after which it approves the election results.

By-elections to the Milli Majlis were held on September 1. 990 candidates competed for 125 seats in parliament. In total, 20 parties announced their participation in the elections. There are 6.42 million registered voters in the republic. Nearly 6.5 thousand polling stations were opened in Azerbaijan, including 54 in Karabakh. Observers called the vote democratic and in accordance with the republic’s legislation.

Turkish President Recep. Tayyip Erdogan I have already congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the victory of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (New Azerbaijan) by telephone. According to preliminary data, the party won 68 out of 125 seats in parliament.

Erdogan said the election results speak of “the confidence of the Azerbaijani people in the work of Ilham Aliyev” and the ruling party. Erdogan considered the elections to have been held in a democratic atmosphere.
