SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia, The festival for those who “flee” festivals, returned to its origins from October 4 to 6 during its eighth edition organized on the island of Formentera. Titled “Chapter Eight Zero: Roots”, the event celebrated its unique proposition for only 350 people marked by the fusion of music, nature, gastronomy and positive impact.
At the top of the festival’s disruptive programming, secret until the last moment, we find Baiuca, Galician musical phenomenon who mixes the traditional music of his country with avant-garde electronics; 2manydjs, the project of the talented Belgian brothers David and Stephen Dewaele which has become a reference mixing various genres ranging from progressive rock to electronic; Kabeaushé, Kenyan artist who reveals delirious pop full of rawness and rave energy; or Roosevelt, German singer and producer, champion of synthpop and retro electro played with class. Nubiyan Twist, Tulsa, Rocío Luna, Violeta Veinte, Júlia Colom, Branko, Faizal Mostrizx, Sonido Tupinamba, Flow Da Lou, Marco Holtman, Caste and Nat Ambiente completed this year a line-up which shows that creating a different poster is possible .
This year, as a novelty, the Friday concerts took place in the Plaza de Sant Ferran, thus also opening up to the island’s public with live shows by Baiuca or Roosevelt. On the other hand, the gastronomic proposal combined Mediterranean flavors with a festival and informal format associated with the different menus of Hijos de Rivera beers, from the Estrella Galicia Especial to the range of Cervezas 1906 or the new Lupia, based on Galician hops .
In addition, the non-conformist vocation of SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia has led it to become the only festival in the world to obtain TRUE Platinum certification for Zero Waste or Zero Residue by the GBCI® (Green Business Certification Inc.™). This new milestone, added to the fact that it will be zero emissions from 2021, defines its efforts to try to improve from edition to edition.
As every year since its beginnings, Formentera has become the center of the SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia proposal. The commitment to the island remains alive, committed to promoting sustainable tourism and protecting local ecosystems. The festival, the largest contributor to the Save Posidonia project which attempts to protect oceanic Posidonia, allows the public to (re)discover its secret corners, its fauna, its flora, its culture, its flavors and its inhabitants through guided musical walks by the island or activities such as beach cleaning so that participants become aware of the importance of reducing and reusing.
In addition, collaboration with local suppliers and producers is encouraged to generate a real positive impact that can be perceived by its population. Produced in collaboration with the Island Council of FormenteraHIS Estrella Galicia Posidonia is a tribute to an incomparable natural space that must be cared for and protected as it deserves.
