Balearic expedition continues to search for bodies in parking lots

Without respite and without rest. The Balearic Expedition which works in the municipality of Sedavione of the areas most affected by DANA as it crosses the Valencian Community, is optimistic although tired by the heavy workload that they have accumulated. They are currently working to empty parking lots where there are suspected bodies and basements of private homes. The positive news is that For the first time, they were able to eat “something hot”.

Joan Poldirector of Government Emergencies and head of the Balearic contingent sent to the Valencia region, explains this: “We are emptying water from public and private car parks which have between 400 and 700 spaces. In two of them, it is possible to find bodies. “We are also clearing the roads to allow vehicles to pass through. »

Regarding the equipment used, Pol comments: “We have 18 motor pumps and 11 fire trucks and we also provide logistics support. “The organization is much better and for the first time we were able to eat something hot.”

So far the group from the Balearic contingent has not found anyone.

Tomeu Llabrésdirector of IBANAT –Balearic Nature Institute– explains to OKDIARIO that in the Balearic delegation transferred to the Valencian Community there is a total 66 people which circulate in 28 vehicles. “We are in Sedaví and a total of 180 people work here. Among all of us, we are drain water from basements, homes, shopping centers and underpasses road. We also provide health support to the Balearic Islands contingent group, as well as to the rest of the population,” he adds.

Llabrés comments that “the tools we brought from the Balearic Islands are sufficient for the number of people working. The Generalitat also provided us with equipment.

Concerning breaks, the director of IBANAT adds that “they are agreed and organized” even if they do not manage to sleep too much and that “every day we go to the workplace”.

Llabrés adds that “The scale of the disaster is very great but work is underway“.

The work of the Palma firefighters

In another parallel line of work, Palma firefighters are assigned to the affected area. So far, a contingent of 13 soldiers of the Palma firefighters and a reserve team has been formed which will soon take over from the operational colleagues in these first days.

The Palma fire chief, Eder García, indicated this Monday that: “We are working at the Albufera Hotel in Alfafar. More precisely in its underground parking lot. There It is suspected that there may be a victim inside a vehicle. We draw water until we can empty it. The objective is to eliminate any casualties there may be and to remove any water, which may be a source of disease. Once we finish our work there, we will wait to be assigned to another location.

García added that “the main work now is empty the basement of water. We are told that the population already has water and food and that technical equipment is now needed to draw water, which is why we opened a bank account. “We are contacting companies that have water pumps so that the Town Hall can acquire them with the donations we receive.”

At the moment, one of the priorities of the Fire Department is to be able to have a model of submersible electric pump for sludge because the equipment they currently have slows down the work.
