Balearic Islands reach lowest unemployment rate in August since 2002

Unemployment increased by 713 people in the Balearic Islands in August and stands at 28,112 unemployed, although this figure is the lowest figure for August in the Islands since 2002With this increase in August, two consecutive months of growing unemployment in the archipelago have already accumulated, even if, over a year, the number of unemployed in the islands has decreased by 6.7% (2,019 fewer unemployed).

As for sexesOf the 28,112 unemployed registered in August, 15,866 were women, 282 more (+1.8%) and 12,246 men, which represents an increase of 431 in the number of unemployed compared to the previous month (+3.6%).

In August, the strike among minor youth 25-year-olds increased, with 22 more unemployed than at the end of last month (+0.8%), while unemployment among people with 25 years or older increased by 691 unemployed (+2.79%).

On the other hand, according to data published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, there are in the archipelago 104 workers subject to a temporary work regulation file (ERTE) including 36 men and 68 women. In total, 17 have a partial suspension and 87 a total suspension.

Currently, the Balearic Islands have a total of 652,289 members of Social Securitya figure 3% more than in 2023, with 19,055 more workers, according to data published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.

Most of them correspond to general regime (543,388) and within this 8,853 correspond to the household and 2,828 to the agrarian regime. On their side, 105,165 are independent and 3,736 are registered in the maritime regime.
