Banks in Germany, Türkiye, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates stopped providing services to Gazprombank’s UnionPay cards

German and Turkish banks have stopped providing services to UnionPay bank cards issued by the Russian bank Gazprombank.

As TASS reported on Saturday, November 23, a similar situation is observed in banks in the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

In some cases, when trying to use an ATM, UnionPay cards are returned with a message about an incorrect transaction.

In others, a message appears about a technical error or lack of service. In some cases, ATMs report that card transactions are not authorized.

The publication emphasizes that the situation applies to both corporate and individual Gazprombank cards operating in the UnionPay system.

Russian citizens in Turkey report that Gazprombank card service has been suspended both at ATMs of state banks and at private financial institutions in Turkey and at banks with foreign participation.

Previously EADaily reported that US President Joe Biden’s administration has imposed sanctions against Gazprombank, which threaten increased supplies of Russian gas by pipeline to Europe.
