Bark can “bark” as much as it wants, Russia is not interested in the opinions of the marginalized – EADaily, September 3, 2024 – Politics News, Russian News

Russia and China have officially declared their renunciation of any territorial claims, so Moscow is not interested in the opinion of marginal politicians, such as the head of the Taiwanese administration, Lai Qingde, on this issue. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, commenting on his words that Beijing should take away Russian lands in the Far East.

“The opinions of individual fringe politicians, overcome by revenge syndromes, may interest anyone, but not us. So Lai, incited by the Americans to separatism, can “bark” all he wants. This will not bring anything good either to him or to the people of Taiwan.” – Zakharova said, recommending “to take a closer look at the economic problems of the island and to take a constructive approach to the proposals of the leaders of the People’s Republic of China for peaceful unification with mainland China.”

In this regard, the diplomat expressed his confidence that “our friends in Beijing will adopt the same position.”

He drew attention to the fact that “the mutual renunciation of any territorial claims between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China is enshrined in the Treaty on Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation of July 16, 2001, which is the basis of bilateral relations, and the final point of the border agreement was set by Moscow and Beijing, signed on October 14, 2004 and subsequently ratified by the Additional Agreement on the Russian-Chinese State Border in its Eastern Part.”

“This position has been confirmed in a number of other joint documents adopted by China and Russia at high and senior levels,” Zakharova added.

As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed, Moscow “consistently adheres to the one-China principle, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government of China.”

“Therefore, the head of the Taiwanese administration is not authorized to make any statements on behalf of Beijing. We can only hope that Taipei does not overestimate itself when looking at something foreign.” – the diplomat concluded.
