Where she puts her eye, Beatriz Gómez Hermosilla puts her arrow. After six years without competition for work, studies and motherhood, the brand new chief inspector of the National Police takes over by investigating cybercrimes.
On Sunday, he rose to the top of the box in Guadalajara, his native country. She was accompanied by her two children and had butterflies in her stomach at 38 years old. This happened to him as in his best moments, when he won seven Spanish championships, numerous regional championships in Castile-La Mancha and with the national team he participated in the world championships, European championships and major international awards. She also participated in the Mediterranean Games in Almería in 2005, where she achieved her best individual place: fifth. “In teams, I finished ninth at a world championship,” remembers this former elite athlete, quadruple national record holder and who won 31 gold, 9 silver and 12 bronze medals.
His successful sports career began at the age of 14 and had two significant breaks. First, when he applied for the national police. Between the exclusive dedication to preparation and training after the passage, he went between three and four years without competing.
He took over the bow and dates, returned to the national team and reached a second peak. “It was a year before covid because I changed my destination.” He went to the General Commissariat of the Judicial Police in Madrid, which implied greater dedication to the service. Added to this was this damn pandemic, which also meant a big break for Beatriz. And then came the pregnancies of her two children. “They are two and three years old,” says the happy mother with a smile from ear to ear.
Her husband has been a very important pillar in the care of the offspring, something that Beatriz had to reconcile with her studies to be promoted to chief inspector and her work as group leader within the Central Cybercrime Unit.
Today, he has decided to return to competition and is not giving up on his dream: “Go to the Olympic Games; “It’s an outstanding debt in my sporting career.” He participates in the Olympic archery leagues of Castilla-La Mancha and on November 10 he debuted with a victory in an event that counts for the regional championship and the absolute championship of Spain.
Originally from Guadalajara, Beatriz is the only Spanish security force agent decorated by the United States Secret Service (USSS). This is the result of the fact that the federal agency requested the collaboration of the National Police to investigate a fraud whose epicenter is in Miajadas (Cáceres). It was in 2019. With the help of numerous agents and thanks to Operation Secret, Beatriz discovered a 12 million euro scam committed with bank cards. One hundred and five people of seven nationalities were arrested. Two years later, he received the first star of the USSR in Spain.
“My entire professional career and my life experiences in the Police over the years have brought me wealth, also mental and psychological, for my personality. Sports helped me prepare for opposition and face anything. But I think that now the Police are helping me to face this new sporting stage. So it’s a very good symbiosis,” reflects Beatriz, whose goal is the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
