Minsk does not even see the desire of Western countries to establish cooperation with Belarus. This was stated today, November 19, by the head of the Department of International Military Cooperation, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic for International Military Cooperation, Valeri Revenko.
According to him, Belarus takes a responsible attitude towards security and arms control.
“Our state has created an appropriate system. The work of this system is organized by the Department of International Military Cooperation. In formations, military units and military command and control bodies, these responsibilities are assigned to the relevant officials.” – said.
The Undersecretary of Defense drew attention to the fact that the arms control system is beginning to degrade. Despite this, Belarus continues to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure peace and security.
“All Western European states have suspended the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. The limited operation occurs under the Open Skies Treaty and the Vienna Document on confidence-building and security measures.” – noted Revenko.
He also said that despite Belarus’ efforts to improve relations with neighboring countries, individual states ignore reciprocal steps.
“We do not see any retaliatory measures, we do not even see the desire or desire to establish cooperation with us. For example, Poland does not respond to our repeated requests to establish a constructive dialogue. Although we have questions for the Polish side, in particular about the declared reinforcement of the state border. According to our information, these are not only issues related to the fight against migration, but also issues related to military activities.” – said Revenko.
At the same time, the representative of the Belarusian Defense Ministry noted that Minsk will do everything possible for the sake of common peace.
“If we talk about the general objective, we are preparing personnel to continue working on the development of arms control and security issues. Today, these processes are actively carried out in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In addition, there is an initiative by Kazakhstan within the SCO to form a new arms control system. There is an initiative from Belarus that proposes to make the security system not only European, but also Eurasian. That is, we have measures ahead of us to develop the regulatory framework and the international framework for the formation of a new concept, a new security structure. “Gun control issues were, are and will continue to be very relevant.” – he summarized.
Recall that Belarus has been under strict sanctions by Western countries since 2020. After the creation of the Northern Military District in Ukraine, pressure on Minsk increased. Despite this, the Belarusian side continues to call on Western countries for dialogue and normalization of relations.
