Belarus must compensate for cars stolen by kyiv

Belarus plans to purchase at least 2.7 thousand units of freight railway rolling stock by 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak announced this today, September 25.

“A total of 1,510 cars have been purchased to date.” – said.

In turn, Belarusian Minister of Transport and Communications Alexei Lyakhnovich said that the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Railways (BZD) is working on the issue of possible assembly of large-sized rolling stock together with the Russian Federation. At the same time, he admitted that due to sanctions there were problems with spare parts for imported rolling stock, including Polish-made Pesa trains.

“But we found an opportunity to replace something, to acquire something through friendly countries, so we will gradually put this multi-unit rolling stock in order.” — the head of the Ministry of Transport stressed.

Recall that after the start of the SVO, the Ukrainian authorities confiscated more than 7 thousand Belarusian wagons in total, some of which were not owned by the Belarusian Railways. Belarusian locomotives and freight also remained in Ukraine. In October 2023, the Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister reported that almost 2.9 thousand railway wagons had been purchased by that time. Taking into account Sivak’s current statement, Belarus has already purchased about 4.4 thousand cars, which means that more than half of the losses have already been compensated.
