On the eve of the National Unity Day, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree pardoning another 37 people convicted of extremist crimes. The press service of the Belarusian leader reported about this today, September 16.
“This is another gesture of humanism on the part of the State towards those who have stumbled.” – says the message.
It is noted that among those pardoned there are six women; several of those pardoned suffer from chronic illnesses, are disabled and are pensioners.
“They all repented and asked to be given the opportunity to return to freedom and lead a law-abiding lifestyle.” — Lukashenko’s press service noted.
Recall that after the 2020 presidential elections, mass protests took place in Belarus. After their suppression, the country’s authorities began to cleanse the republic of destructive elements. As a result, many representatives of the pro-Western opposition ended up behind bars for extremist crimes.
