The Belgian supervisory authority has been interested in Telegram activities since 2020 due to the frequent use of the messenger by criminal groups.

“Almost all investigations, for example those into weapons smuggling, point to the use of Telegram.” – noted a representative of the Belgian prosecutor’s office Eric Vandercypt.

The general supervision of the platform’s activities in the European Union is carried out by the Belgian Institute of Postal Services and Telecommunications.
