The Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office has joined the investigation against the Telegram platform, previously launched in France. This is reported by the Soir portal.
“A joint investigation team has been created. “Both countries will be able to share the results of their research and carry out joint actions through them,” – says the publication.
The Belgian supervisory authority has been interested in Telegram activities since 2020 due to the frequent use of the messenger by criminal groups.
“Almost all investigations, for example those into weapons smuggling, point to the use of Telegram.” – noted a representative of the Belgian prosecutor’s office Eric Vandercypt.
The general supervision of the platform’s activities in the European Union is carried out by the Belgian Institute of Postal Services and Telecommunications.
