Bellido calls for deal to reach consensus on regional funding

He president of the Cortes of Castile-La Mancha, Pablo Bellidodefended this Saturday in Valencia “the opportunity to reach an agreement between the parliamentary groups of the region” to succeed an agreement on regional financing this responds to the higher cost of health care in this autonomous community than in other territories.

The president of the Castilla-La Mancha Assembly participated this Saturday in the round table “Health seen from the presidencies of the autonomous parliaments”, with his counterparts from the chambers of Andalusia and Galicia, Jesús Aguirre and Miguel Ángel Santalices Vieira, at the within the 15th Meeting of World Health Parliamentarians organized by the journal Medical Writing in Valencia.

In this debate, defended joint work “to achieve a major regional agreement”, which is then brought to a national request, to obtain funding allowing provide health services in a very large and widely dispersed region.

The president of the Regional Cortes illustrated this particularity by comparing the province of Guadalajara with the neighboring province of Alcalá de Henares, reported the Regional Parliament in a press release.

“With a similar population, There they can serve their entire population with a large hospital and a few health centers, while in the territory of Guadalajara a much larger network is needed, with more than fifty health centers and clinics in the cities”, he explained: “this represents an enormous economic consumption , so we need more funding to provide the same services.”

In this round table, Bellido reviewed some of the health issues that were most discussed in plenary session during the last legislature, marked by Covid, and in the first part of this, and deepened the deterioration of the political climate in assemblies across the country: “There is a very bitter and extreme debate which does not make it easy to agree on good health responses, even though this is precisely an area which requires reduction the tone to seek solutions.”

“What is not in good health is the Spanish public debate”, declared the president of the Regional Chamber, who considers for this reason that the agreements between the presidencies of the autonomous governments or between the heads of the ministries themselves -themselves are more feasible, even if they are of a different political character than within the respective autonomous parliaments: “Among those who govern and assume the complexities of governing, there is solidarity, while within the parliaments the debate has become too poisonous and the parties not only do not punish tension, but sometimes they even reward it.

Finally, Bellido also defended the provision of health services by the autonomous communities, against those who demand the return of these powers to the State, while promoting coordination between border territories and co-governance mechanisms like those promoted in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have a successful model, but it can be improved,” he assured.

The socialist spokesperson of the Health Commission, the deputy of Cuenca Ángel Tomás Godoy, also participated in the medical writing session, as a speaker at the table “New law on the waiting list” to debate with three deputies from Andalusia, Murcia and the Basque Country.
