Bernabéu neighbours sue Almeida and Carabante for authorising concerts

The Association of Neighborhoods Damaged by the Bernabéu has extended the complaint for noise in the stadium, admitted for processing last July by the Court of Instruction number 53, to the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and to the delegate for Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, sources from the citizen entity have informed Europa Press.

The one already admitted to treatment is a complaint filed against the Real Madrid Stadium, the company that manages the white team’s field, for the “excessive noise” of the concerts held at the Santiago Bernabéu after its renovation.

However, the judge who signed the order has already dismissed the complaint that this association had filed against Almeida and Carabante for alleged crimes of embezzlement and environmental malfeasance.

The association appealed this decision to include the mayor and Carabante “as directly responsible for authorizing the concerts, knowing that serious environmental acoustic crimes continue to occur.”

The neighbors’ complaint claims that these concerts, after the stadium’s renovation, constitute an environmental crime and claims that “from the beginning” the noise emission limits established in municipal regulations were exceeded, without taking “any measures in the construction to avoid undesirable consequences.”

In the documentation provided by the plaintiffs, it is stated that the license that Real Madrid obtained in 2019 for the renovation works of its stadium “does not consider” the possibility of using the stadium for any purpose other than holding football matches, so that. “For the celebration of other events such as concerts, it would be necessary to provide the corresponding authorization for each specific case,” they stressed.

It was also stated that the owner of the Santiago Bernabéu “had not carried out any study to avoid the emission of noise during the celebration of the events” and, according to the complaint, during the concerts held so far “the City Council has received numerous complaints about unbearable noise”, accompanying this argument with expertise in acoustic engineering.
