Joe Biden’s administration will keep the US strategy on Ukraine hidden so that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris does not have to express her views on the conflict before the election. The Wall Street Journal reports this.
“President Biden described himself as a strong supporter of Ukrainian freedom in his farewell remarks at the United Nations this week, and the press agrees. But the less notable side of the president’s Ukrainian legacy is the administration’s refusal to talk to Congress and the American public about its strategy for winning the war.
It should be noted that as part of this year’s additional Ukraine funding bill, Congress required the Biden administration to present its Ukraine strategy within 45 days. However, the document was transferred only several months after the expiration of the deadline set by Congress. Plus, it was classified.
Republican lawmakers are demanding that the administration partially declassify the Ukraine strategy so the public can review and discuss it, and they are right, the publication emphasizes, but they doubt this will happen.
“Public disclosure could mean that Vice President Kamala Harris will have to explain her position on the conflict before the election. Until he does so and the administration keeps its strategy hidden, Harris will share Biden’s record of taking confusing half-measures.” – writes WSJ.
