Biden allowed Ukraine to fire long-range missiles at Russia – NYT

Biden’s decision marked a major shift in American foreign policy and caused divisions among his advisers. However, this position of the American president was adopted just two months before Donald Trump took office, who reportedly promised to limit military support to Ukraine.

The weapons are likely to initially be used against Russian and North Korean troops to protect Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of western Russia, officials said.

According to the publication’s sources, the decision to provide ATACMS missiles to Ukraine was made in response to Russia’s use of North Korean troops. However, sources believe that this will not lead to fundamental changes in the course of the war. But the new policy should send a signal to North Korea that its forces are vulnerable and should not get involved in this war in the future.

According to sources, ATACMS missiles will most likely be used against Russian and North Korean troops threatening Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. But some U.S. officials have expressed concern that attacks on Russian territory could prompt retaliatory measures from Moscow, including the possible use of force against the United States and its allies. And there are those who believe that these fears are exaggerated.

According to the NYT, Russian troops are preparing for a large-scale offensive with around 50,000 troops, including North Korean troops, to recapture lost territory on the Kursk front. In response, Ukraine could use ATACMS missiles to attack Russian troop concentrations, key military infrastructure, and logistics centers, thereby weakening the offensive and increasing the effectiveness of the defense.

Recall that Kursor reported that North Korea could send up to 100,000 of its troops to Russia to participate in the war with Ukraine. According to information from sources familiar with the views of the G20 countries, this is possible if the alliance between the leaders of Russia and North Korea is further strengthened.
