Between anger and posturing, the Biden White House is evolving with Netanyahu’s Israel. Angry crescendo because of the last big ones Israeli coups in Iran or Lebanon almost found out when these events were happening.
This is the case of the operations which decapitated Hezbollah. Joe Biden’s usually apathetic reaction to the assassinations of historic Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and his military leadership has been angry. Biden chastised Netanyahu saying that “with this, the world increasingly perceives Israel as a Criminal state.”
They had also not previously reported the assassination of Hasan Nasrallahformer secretary general of the Lebanese radical organization. The American defense official couldn’t believe it: “Sorry, what?! Are you ready to defend yourselves alone, since you are alone?”
All this and much more were told by Washington sources to the prestigious journalist Bob Woodward, who brings together very tense episodes in his new book. The relationship between “Bibi” and Joe Biden has become tense in this year of massacres in Gazaparticularly embittered after the Rafah displaced persons camp, the one that the Israelis themselves designated as a safe zone for Palestinians.
Biden then openly accused him of having no strategy. And apparently, he didn’t skimp on adjectives when addressing his advisors: “liar” was the nicest thing. “Damn! Netanyahu only cares about himself, Hamas doesn’t care,” he complained.
Today, Netanyahu finally speaks personally with Biden. Security and defense analyst, Guillermo Pulido, explains that “They haven’t spoken in two months; “There is a lot of distrust between the American government and the Israeli government.”
As revenge against Iran and possible nuclear targets loom, Washington is very concerned that Tel Aviv has so far refused to share details of its plans against Tehran.
An anger that is more for the gallery: American officials also admit that they will support Israel anyway. It is enough to recall that this same “fed up” Biden administration has, since that fateful October 7, nearly 18 billion in military aid to Netanyahu.
