A statement from US President Joe Biden regarding the removal of Yahya Sinwar has emerged.
According to him, this morning Israeli authorities informed the American national security team that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed during an operation in the Gaza Strip. DNA testing later confirmed his death, which Biden called a significant event for Israel, the United States and the entire international community.
Biden noted that Sinwar, as leader of Hamas, was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, including Israelis, Palestinian Arabs, Americans and citizens of other countries. He stressed that it was Sinwar who was the organizer of the massacres, kidnappings and other brutal acts committed on October 7.
The American president recalled that on Sinwar’s orders, Hamas militants invaded Israel, attacking civilians with extreme brutality, even killing children in front of their parents. Biden highlighted that this day was the bloodiest for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, and mentioned that among the dead were 46 Americans, and more than 250 people were taken hostage. Among the hostages are seven Americans, four of whom he said are still alive and being held by Hamas militants. Biden pointed out that Sinwar bears full responsibility for these events.
He also said that immediately after the Oct. 7 tragedy, he ordered U.S. special operations forces and intelligence to work closely with their Israeli counterparts to capture Sinwar and other Hamas leaders. Biden noted that thanks to joint efforts, the IDF pursued the terrorists, displacing them from their hideouts.
Biden added that this is an important day for Americans, which can be compared to the elimination of Osama bin Laden in 2011. He stressed that Israel had every right to destroy the leadership of Hamas to prevent a repeat of the events of October 7.
“I will soon speak with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders to congratulate them, discuss ways to return the hostages to their families, and end once and for all this war that has caused so much harm to innocent people.
There is now a chance for a “next day” in Gaza without Hamas rule and for a political settlement that provides a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to the achievement of all these objectives. This obstacle no longer exists. But there is still a lot of work ahead,” Sinwar said.
