Representatives of the Georgian Dream unanimously reaffirmed Shalva Papuashvili as Speaker of Parliament at the first session of the eleventh convocation of the Parliament of Georgia.
Papuashvili has held this position since December 2021.
In addition, at the first session of the eleventh convocation of parliament, a faction was created – “The Georgian Dream”. It included 80 deputies, the faction will be headed by Mamuka Mdinaradze. It is also known that the Prime Minister of Georgia will continue Irakli Kobakhidze.
The announced list of parliamentary deputies includes the founder and honorary president of Georgian Dream. Bidzina IvanishviliHe became a deputy for the first time. The media suggests that Ivanishvili, who was the main face of the ruling party during the election campaign, could reject the mandate.
The opposition parties that entered parliament boycotted the work of parliament and did not withdraw their mandates, but Dream has the authority to continue working in this situation.
At the same time, opposition supporters continue to demonstrate in front of the parliament building demanding new elections. Ruling party deputies were escorted to parliament under police protection. The step was accompanied by noises and shouts from those gathered at the protest. Before this, protesters knocked on the doors of parliament.
