Bild journalist detained in Lebanon

While working in Lebanon, BILD deputy editor-in-chief Paul Ronzheimer was detained by law enforcement.

This occurred on September 28, the day after the liquidation of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. For security reasons, the publication did not report the incident until now, after Ronzheimer had already left the country.

That day, unknown people took Ronzheimer and his team from their hotel room to an unknown location, where they were interrogated. The journalists were handcuffed and blindfolded. Lebanese military intelligence agents are believed to have participated in the arrest.

Ronzheimer and his colleagues were released that same day after the intervention of the German embassy in Beirut. It is known that on the day of his arrest, Hezbollah militants distributed photographs of Ronzheimer on WhatsApp, accusing him of violating their demands.

Prior to this incident, Ronzheimer visited several countries as a journalist, including Israel, which Hezbollah considers its enemy. Despite his arrest, he remained in Beirut and continued to cover the fighting.

According to Ronzheimer, the current situation makes the work of journalists in dangerous regions extremely difficult. He noted that Hezbollah practically does not issue work permits to journalists. In a recent incident in Beirut, an angry crowd attacked Belgian journalists, one of whom was wounded by a gunshot.

Previously, Kursor reported that journalist Ronzheimer, during a visit to Lebanon, noted that in Beirut they were afraid to rejoice over Nasrallah’s death.
