JAKARTA -Chairman of the Council for the Legislation of DPR Ri (BALEG) from the PKB faction, Ahmad Iman Siukri, claimed that his faction would fight for the draft law (RUU) in the Community of customary law (MHA) as a priority for national legislation.

This bill is intended to ensure legal protection to the indigenous peoples from marginalization, discrimination and criminalization.

“We, as the applicant of the MHA bill, consistently place this bill as a priority agenda in national Prolegnas. This is a form of our commitment to social justice, ”said Iman, Saturday (12/7/2025).

Faith said that the preparation of the MHA bill has a strong constitutional basis, namely the clause of Article 18B (2) and the clause of Article 28I (3) of the 1945 Constitution, which clearly recognizes the existence and traditional rights of communities of ordinary law.

In addition, Iman explained, the PKB faction, which was very rooted in the tradition of Nahdlatul -Wulam (NU), historically had a commitment to the protection of vulnerable groups, including indigenous peoples and rustic farmers.

“The long story of NU in the struggle for the rights of small people, especially those who have suffered from agrarian conflicts, is a moral and social fund for PKB in encouraging this bill,” explained a politician from the Eastern Java VII electoral district.
