Monday began Valencia Tennis Club with the meeting between the Valencian promise Andrés Santamarta Roig and the Austrian player Joel Schwaerzler on the central court “Pablo Andújar”. The hardness of the first set was not reflected in the score, which fell to the Austrian 6-2. Already in the second set, Santamarta showed flashes of great tennis, fighting for every ball and trying to involve the home crowd. For his part, Joël, relying on constant tennis, avoided a possible comeback by closing the second set 6-4.
The second round of the center hosted another Valencian tennis player, Carlos López Montagud, who faced the Russian Ivan Gakhov. Thanks to incisive and powerful tennis, Ivan won the first set 6-4, in the second set Montagud earned a crucial break to win the set, finally it was the Russian player who took the victory with 6-4 in the deciding set.
Already in the third round, Valencia Tennis Club player Carlos Taberner beat Romanian Jianu in his first match, with whom he had a favorable match of 2-1. Carlos was very motivated in the first set, and he made it count, winning the first set 6-2. The second set was much more contested after the Romanian’s rise in level: the Valencian, however, closed the match 7-6, thus qualifying for the round of 16.
Finally, the player of the senior team of Clib de Tenis Valencia, Bernabé Zapata, also closed the day on the center court with a defeat.
