Black coffee improves insulin sensitivity in women

A recent Korean study showed that the use of black coffee, especially among women, is associated with improving glucose control and a decrease in insulin resistance, emphasizing the potential role of coffee in metabolism.

The study, which was included in the “medical news”, examines the relationship between the consumption of coffee and the metabolism of glucose (the process of body cells that receive the necessary energy in adults in Korea.

Can coffee help regulate blood sugar and maintain diabetes?

Coffee is one of the most common drinks around the world. Nevertheless, current studies report contrasting results on the impact on health.

Although each additional cup of coffee can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) by 6 percent, regardless of the presence of caffeine, mechanisms associated with the fact that they are still unclear.

Previous studies have shown that the presence of polyphenols in abundance in coffee can increase sensitivity to insulin, which is very important for the treatment of diabetes and reducing insulin resistance.

Research results

These advantages were multiplied by women who took three or more cups per day, since the levels of Homa-Yir and insulin on an empty stomach decreased by 34 percent and 36 percent, respectively.

Nevertheless, women who drank in black coffee showed better insulin resistance, as well as glucose compared to those who were added to sugar and/or cream. Every day, the use of two cups of black coffee was associated with a 36 percent decrease in both the level of Homa-Yira and insulin on an empty stomach.

These advantages are no longer important when there are three or more cups of black coffee daily.
