In the last two months, exports of various Lithuanian products to Belarus have increased considerably. This is stated by specialists from SEB bank.
It should be noted that, although Lithuania does not import Belarusian fertilizers, it does buy clothing, furniture, vegetables, fruits and nuts from the neighboring republic. At the same time, trailers, semi-trailers and cars are supplied to Belarus from Lithuanian territory. At the same time, exports of the latter multiplied several times and the quantities reached hundreds of millions.
“I would like to draw your attention to a worrying situation: for two months now, exports of Lithuanian products to Belarus have been increasing and it refers above all to one group: the export of equipment for food production. Even before the sanctions, there was no such volume of exports.” – said the SEB economist Tadas Povilauskas.
In addition, according to the Lithuanian State Data Agency, in nine months of 2023, cars and other vehicles worth 83.063 million euros were exported to Belarus, and this year the amount of exports of these goods amounted to 163.745 million euros. Furthermore, a year ago, in 9 months, trailers and semi-trailers worth 11.3 million euros were exported, and this year, 49.37 million euros. According to the Customs Department, most cars exported to Belarus are subsequently registered in Russia.
Let us remember that Lithuania was one of the first to impose sanctions against Belarus and Russia. Furthermore, Vilnius is one of the main promoters of the growing pressure on Minsk. The Belarusian authorities have repeatedly called on the Lithuanian side to come to its senses and come to the negotiating table, but there was no response to their calls.
