On November 13, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken approached Israel with a proposal to organize “real and lasting pauses” in the fighting in Gaza.
He stressed that this is necessary to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid. Blinken noted that Israel has already taken several steps to improve the situation ahead of the Biden administration’s deadline, but stressed that there is still room for more action.
“We must achieve long pauses in large areas of Gaza, pauses in any fighting, so that humanitarian aid can freely reach people in need,” he said.
According to Blinken, Israel has implemented 12 of the 15 points recommended by the United States. The Secretary of State emphasized the need to resolve three further key issues. The first of them is the extension of the pauses in hostilities. The second and third refer to allowing commercial trucks to enter the Palestinian territory and lifting evacuation orders.
“Furthermore, along with the cessation of hostilities, for which we believe the time has come, the proposed humanitarian measures must be fully implemented,” he explained.
