BMW opposes the increase in tariffs on Chinese electric cars

German carmaker BMW has called on German authorities to vote against increasing EU tariffs on imports of Chinese electric vehicles. Bloomberg reports this.

According to the general director of the concern. Oliver ZipseAccording to the agency, additional tariffs harm companies operating in this country and “could lead to a trade dispute in which there will be no winners.”

“In this context, German leaders must take a clear position and not support tariff increases.” – said.

It was previously reported that EU states will vote on Friday on the final introduction of 45% tariffs on the import of electric vehicles made in China. The decision requires the support of 15 of the 27 EU countries.

At the same time, as Bloomberg writes, German leaders made it clear that they intend to abstain from the vote. The agency, citing sources, reports that Berlin hopes that a significant number of EU countries will follow suit.

Germany, as the publication reports, is counting on constructive negotiations between Brussels and Beijing on this issue.
