Boat arrives in Ibiza with 101 immigrants on board, including two women and a baby

A group of 101 immigrants arrived this morning on the island of Ibiza in a single boat much larger than the usual boats, as reported by the Government Delegation of the Balearic Islands.

The migrants were intercepted by the Civil Guard of three municipalities, Sant Josep, Santa Eulària and Sant Antoni, and by the Local Police of Sant Josep, at two in the morning, already on the ground, in the area of ​​Es Codolar.

The detainees are all of Maghreb origin and are in apparent good healthas detailed by the government delegation.

It is about the largest arrival of irregular immigrants from North Africa to the Balearic Islands on board a single vessel detected in recent years.

More arrivals in Formentera

Another 36 people of Maghreb origin were located last night on board two boats in Formentera and southeast of Mallorca. Throughout the day on Monday, six boats were intercepted.

At around 11:30 p.m., the Formentera Civil Guard and the Citizen Security Unit of the Command intercepted on land, in the area of ​​Caló de Sant Agustí, 20 people who reached the coast on board a boat.

About five minutes later, the Civil Guard of Santanyí and Felanitx, as well as the Local Police of Santanyí, intervened in the interception of 16 immigrants on land, in the area of ​​Cala S’Almonia (Santanyí).

At the beginning of August, a boat with 58 people on board, until then the ship with the most migrants to reach the archipelago.

Almost all of the immigrants intercepted on Tuesday were adult men, although two women were also travelling on the same boat. one of them with a babyas detailed by sources from entities that assist these people.

Usually the boats that arrive on the coasts of Mallorca and the Pitiusas have a capacity of about twenty people and rarely the boats.

With this new ship, until now in 2024, they have arrived in the Balearic Islands 2,828 immigrants in 167 boatsexceeding last year’s figures, according to Efe’s count.

In 2023, 128 boats carrying 2,278 migrants reached the islands.
