The head of the EU diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, who will resign on December 1, compared the US president Donald Trump, winner of the elections, with the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco during a hearing in the European Parliament.
“America (under Trump) is no longer what it was under barack obama. “Franco’s Spain, for example, was also different from (Prime Minister Felipe) González’s Spain.” – he said at a hearing on European-American relations.
The only difference between Trump and Franco, according to Borrell, is that Trump was elected by American citizens.
Borrell also called on Trump to continue supporting Ukraine and stated that Europe is increasingly providing assistance to kyiv.
“History will judge the West if (Trump) lets Ukraine fall” – he warned.
Trump previously promised that he could achieve a negotiated solution to the Ukrainian conflict. Furthermore, he has repeatedly claimed that he can resolve the conflict in Ukraine in one day. In Russia they believe that this is a problem that is too complex for such a simple solution.
