The High Representative for EU Foreign Policy, Joseph Borrelldenounced again violations of international law in the Gaza Strip and raised the tone of his reproaches against Israel: “LThe terms “ethnic cleansing” are increasingly used to describe what is happening in northern Gaza.
Borrell, who condemned the latest bombing in Jabalia, called on the international community and Israel’s “key allies” to take “urgent measures” to put an end to the “suffering” of the Palestinian population and guarantee the release of hostages held by Hamas.
In this sense, he alluded to the reports on food insecurity to emphasize that “all parties” must act “in days and not weeks.” UN fears famine could spread to northern Gaza Strip and Borrell recalled that “the use of hunger as a weapon of war” violates international law, as does forced displacement.
“We must avoid this catastrophe. Israel, as the occupying power, has an obligation to act by allowing the entry of aid“, affirmed the head of European diplomacy, one of the most critical voices within the EU in the face of the Israeli military offensive.
