Britain will sign a historic defense pact with Germany next week, which is expected to lead to closer military and security ties with the European Union (EU).
Oku.Az “The Sunday Times” reported on this.
The agreement would allow British and German forces to conduct joint exercises on NATO’s eastern border with Russia, most likely in Estonia and Lithuania. The agreement will also allow the countries to jointly purchase more weapons and cooperate more closely on the development and production of next-generation weapons. This will help strengthen the defense industry of states in the context of reducing arsenals as a result of military aid to Ukraine.
“The Times” writes that the pact is seen in the United Kingdom as the first step towards a broader security and defense agreement with the EU covering defence, intelligence sharing, energy and illegal migration.
According to the newspaper’s source, substantial negotiations with Brussels are expected to take place next year.
