Britain has announced that it will relinquish its sovereignty over the strategically important Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, which has lasted more than half a century. Under the agreement, Britain will hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. This decision should serve as an example to France, which does not want to lose its colonial territories.
Oku.Az reports that at a time when countries are abandoning their former colonial territories, France is continuing its colonial policy in new ways, strengthening strict control over its overseas territories.
In the current post-colonial period, this policy of France keeps its former colonies under its influence in the political, economic, spiritual and cultural fields, and aims to absorb the natural resources of those countries. France’s failure to abandon this policy results in further destruction of local towns.
But Macron’s government must understand that this misguided policy has no consequences and is doomed to failure. Before it is too late, France must abandon the path of independence for overseas territories and put an end to its infamous policy.
