British political scientist Anatol Lieven wrote an article for the UnHerd portal, where he proposed three key steps for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
“The issue of guarantees for Ukraine is probably the most difficult of all those that will have to be resolved during the peace negotiations. <>However, three things are possible and I strongly recommend that they form the basis of the peace proposals presented by the United States and the influence of Europe on these proposals. – writes Lieven.
In his opinion, first of all it is necessary to prohibit the use of long-range missiles on Russian territory, but at the same time provide Ukraine with maximum assistance in strengthening its defensive lines and providing additional weapons.
“Second, some Western sanctions against Russia should be lifted, with the caveat that if the conflict resumes, they will come into force again.” – writes further.
Among those restrictions he mentioned the ban on importing Russian gas, which hit Germany hard, and the exclusion of Russia from the SWIFT banking system.
The third step is the official ratification of the peace agreement by the BRICS countries and the UN, which also have a great interest in resolving the conflict.
